Our Programs

Making holistic wellness easier to learn about, experience, and access in the Rio Grande Valley.

Rootlight Collective is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas.

Our programs connect people with wellness education, community experiences, cultural and ancestral healing traditions, and local practitioners who are already doing this work in our region.

Some programs introduce people to a practice for the first time. Others create space to learn, gather, ask questions, or experience a practice in a community setting.

We also bring practitioners together so they can collaborate, share knowledge, refer people to one another, and better serve the community.

Our goal is simple: make wellness knowledge and resources easier to find and more accessible in the Rio Grande Valley.

Community Wellness Events & Workshops

Experience wellness in community.

Rootlight hosts and collaborates on community events that give people an opportunity to learn about and experience holistic wellness practices in welcoming, accessible settings.

Programs may include:

  • Sound healing

  • Meditation and mindfulness

  • Breathwork and movement

  • Herbal education

  • Energy healing

  • Body-based and somatic practices

  • Hypnosis and guided experiences

  • Ancestral and cultural healing practices

  • Stress and emotional wellness education

  • Seasonal and community wellness gatherings

Many of our events are free, donation-based, or offered on a sliding scale so that more people in our community can participate.

These gatherings also give people an opportunity to meet local practitioners and learn about a practice before deciding whether they want to explore it further.

Healing Arts Book Club

Read. Gather. Question. Connect.

The Healing Arts Book Club brings people together to explore books about healing, the body, spirituality, culture, personal growth, grief, consciousness, ancestral healing, and other aspects of well-being.

Each gathering creates space for conversation rather than instruction alone.

Books become a starting point for people to talk about their own experiences, consider new ideas, ask questions, and learn from one another.

Selections are often led by different Rootlight practitioners, allowing each facilitator to bring their own perspective and area of experience into the conversation.

Wellness Talks & Education

Learn before you decide what's right for you.

One of Rootlight's main purposes is education.

Holistic wellness can be confusing, especially for someone encountering these practices for the first time.

What is Reiki? What does a clinical herbalist actually do? What happens during sound healing? What does ancestral healing mean? How are hypnosis and meditation different? What are somatic practices?

Our Wellness Talks and educational resources give local practitioners a place to explain their work in clear, accessible language.

Through talks, videos, articles, interviews, demonstrations, and workshops, community members can learn about different approaches without pressure to purchase a service.

People can't make informed choices about resources they don't know exist.

Education helps close that gap.

RGV Wellness Week

Free wellness education created for the Rio Grande Valley.

RGV Wellness Week is one of Rootlight Collective's community education initiatives.

The program brings practitioners together to offer free educational sessions around experiences people in our community regularly face, including:

  • Stress and overwhelm

  • Anxiety and survival mode

  • Major life transitions

  • Grief and loss

  • Repeating personal and family patterns

  • Emotional well-being

  • Physical and energetic wellness

  • Spiritual growth and connection

Rather than organizing the program around individual wellness modalities, RGV Wellness Week begins with what people are experiencing and introduces practices and resources that may help them understand their options.

Our August 2026 Wellness Week included five days of free online wellness education led by local practitioners.

The program reached 886 people, generated 2,559 video views, and brought 77 new people into Rootlight's email community.

RGV Wellness Week helps us introduce more people to local wellness resources while giving Rio Grande Valley practitioners a shared platform for community education.

Practitioner Collaboration & Education

Stronger practitioners help build a stronger wellness community.

Rootlight doesn't only create programs for the public.

We also work to strengthen the network of people providing holistic wellness services throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Many independent practitioners build their practices alone. They are responsible for educating the public, finding clients, organizing events, building referral relationships, marketing their work, and maintaining their own professional development.

Rootlight creates opportunities for practitioners to work together instead.

Our practitioner initiatives include:

  • Collaborative community events

  • Practitioner networking

  • Cross-referrals

  • Shared educational opportunities

  • Community outreach

  • Collaborative teaching

  • Opportunities to introduce practices to new audiences

  • Shared resources and organizational support

We believe collaboration allows practitioners to serve people more effectively while helping create a healthier local wellness ecosystem.

Community Wellness Resources

Helping people find where to begin.

Sometimes the hardest part of looking for support is simply figuring out what exists.

Rootlight is developing community resources that make local holistic wellness information easier to find and understand.

These resources include our growing network of practitioner profiles, educational articles and videos, event calendar, community education, and connections to local wellness opportunities.

Rather than asking someone who is new to holistic wellness to already know which modality they need, we want to help people begin with a simpler question:

What are you looking for support with?

From there, people can learn about different approaches, explore educational resources, attend a community program, or connect with a practitioner.

Community Outreach & Volunteering

Wellness grows through relationships.

Rootlight works with volunteers, businesses, nonprofits, community organizations, and other local partners to bring wellness education into more spaces throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Community outreach may include:

  • Supporting community wellness events

  • Educational presentations

  • Volunteer-led outreach

  • Partnerships with local organizations

  • Sharing free wellness resources

  • Helping residents discover local programs

  • Supporting accessible community programming

Volunteers also help Rootlight expand what a small nonprofit can accomplish, from event support and outreach to community education and behind-the-scenes projects.

How Our Programs Work Together

Rootlight's programs aren't separate projects competing for attention.

They are different parts of the same mission.

Someone may first discover Rootlight through a free article or video.

That person may attend RGV Wellness Week and hear a local practitioner speak.

Later, they may attend a book club gathering, sound healing experience, workshop, or community event.

If they decide they want additional support, they already know where to find practitioners and have had an opportunity to learn about their work.

At the same time, practitioners are building relationships with one another, creating referrals, sharing knowledge, collaborating on programs, and reaching people they may never have reached on their own.

Education creates awareness.

Community experiences create connection.

Practitioner collaboration creates a stronger network.

Together, they make wellness resources more visible and accessible throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
