Across the Rio Grande Valley, there are people looking for support beyond what they can find in a doctor's office.
There are also local healers and wellness practitioners doing meaningful work — often quietly, often paying out of their own pockets to make that work accessible.
Rootlight Collective exists to bring those people together.
We create free and accessible wellness education, community gatherings, and opportunities for RGV residents to discover local practitioners and healing traditions they may not otherwise find.
And we've learned something important:
It doesn't take a huge amount of money to make a meaningful difference.
$51 Showed Us What's Possible
In August 2026, Rootlight hosted five days of free online wellness education for the Rio Grande Valley.
We spent about $51 promoting it.
That small investment helped us:
Reach 886 people.
Generate 262 measurable actions.
Welcome 77 new people to our email community.
And most importantly, it helped local practitioners put their work in front of people who may never have found them otherwise.
We learned that when we have even a small amount of money to help people discover these events, people show up.
Now we want to make that possible consistently.
We're Looking for 100 People Who Believe This Should Exist Here
We're building a community-supported fund so Rootlight doesn't have to start from zero every time we want to create something.
Our first goal is simple:
100 monthly supporters.
Not one giant donor.
Not one organization deciding whether this work deserves to exist.
100 people in and around our community saying:
"Yes. I want this work to exist in the Valley, and I'm willing to help keep it going."
At an average of just $10 per person, 100 supporters would create $1,000 every month that Rootlight can use to help people discover our events, keep programming accessible, and take more of the financial burden off the practitioners doing the work.

This Isn't Just About Advertising
Advertising helps us get people into the room.
What happens once they're there is why this matters.
At one of our first free community gatherings in Brownsville, neighbors came together to experience sound, breath, movement, ancestral cleansing, herbal medicine, and other forms of holistic wellness.
For many, it was their first experience with this kind of work.
By the end of the gathering, every participant who responded told us they felt more grounded than when they arrived.
They described feeling:
Lighter.
Calm and hopeful.
Closer to myself.
One person simply wrote:
"Gratitude for being alive."

And It Supports the People Doing the Work
Many holistic wellness practitioners in the Valley are small, independent practitioners.
They serve their communities because they believe in the work.
And too often, they're also the ones paying for the room, the supplies, the promotion, and everything else required to make community programming happen.
We're working to change that.
Our goal is to move from:
Practitioners paying to serve the community
to
Rootlight helping carry the cost
to eventually
Rootlight paying practitioners for the work they bring to the community.

Why Monthly Giving?
Because community work needs more than one successful fundraiser.
It needs something dependable.
When we know there's money coming in every month, we can plan ahead.
We can promote events early, when we've learned our advertising works best.
We can keep programs free or sliding-scale when that's what the community needs.
We can support practitioners instead of asking them to continually donate their labor.
And we can build programming based on what our community needs — not simply what we can afford that month.

Rootlight Collective is a practitioner-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit created here in the Rio Grande Valley.
We're building a connected home for holistic wellness that is rooted in the people who live here.
A place where local practitioners can be found.
Where neighbors can experience different approaches to wellness without needing to already understand them.
Where the practices carried through our families, cultures, and communities are treated as something worth preserving and sharing.
And where access to this work isn't determined entirely by someone's ability to pay.
We don't want that work sustained by one person.
We want it sustained by the community that believes it should exist.
